Welcome to Bonhomme Presbyterian Church's Web site! We're glad you stopped by. My name is Tom Pfizenmaier, and I'm the Senior Minister of Bonhomme. Let me tell you a little bit about who we are, what we believe, and the mission of our church.
Who we are: The issue is really, "Whose we are." We are a group of about 2,000 people who are gathered around the cross of Jesus Christ, in whom we have discovered that we belong to God.
What we believe:
First of all we believe in Jesus Christ. We are Christians. We believe and affirm the great historical truths which all Christian churches have proclaimed: The trinity, the virgin birth, the incarnation, the reality of the miracles, the coming of the Kingdom of God in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, his substitutionary and atoning death for human sin, his bodily resurrection from the dead and his second coming.
Second, we affirm that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, as revealed in scripture alone. Finally, we are Reformed, which means that our tradition flows out of the Christian developments in Switzerland. Presbyterian thought has always emphasized the sovereignty of God, God's election of us, covenant relationships, managment of personal and human resources for God's glory, and the human temptation toward idolatry. These traditions were funneled through Scotland, where they came to be called Presbyterian, and on to America. Bonhomme, which was founded in 1816, is the second oldest Presbyterian church west of the Mississippi. |
