Habitat for Humanity

You do not have to have carpentry skills to participate - the only requirement is a willing heart.

We do, however, require a count of participants prior to each build date, so please email Cris Heffernan to sign up or to get m or e details. Or contact the Church office directly at 636-532-3486.

History

Habitat for Humanity has been a Bonhomme-supported mission since 1995. After the completion of our first home, we made the decision to ban together with other local churches to share the financing, the building and the blessings of working with this vital ministry. From this, the sponsorship of West County Churches was born. Our group now consists of Green Trails Methodist, Manchester Methodist, Salem Methodist of Ladue, Webster Presbyterian and Bonhomme Presbyterian.

2008 Habitat Build:

In 2005 we completed a home in the Hillsdale neighborhood.

In October 2005, Habitat for Humanity hosted their Harvest Homecoming annual dinner-auction fundraiser and partnership celebration. They chose to bestow on West County Churches the honor of Sponsor of the Year for 2005. This honor was not only for our 10 year relationship to the commitment of building homes side-by-side with deserving families, but also for our efforts in mentoring other sponsors as they made the decision to join in working with Habitat.

2004 saw another special opportunity for West County Churches to build side-by-side homes in Habitat's semi-blitz build in the JeffVanderLoo neighborhood where 20 homes were completed in three months. We were also involved in mentoring 5 additional churches to become part of the Habitat Building family.

2001 saw a special opportunity for participation. That year marked the St. Louis Chapter of Habitat for Humanity’s 15th year of building homes for those families in our area that are in need of a hand up – not a hand out. In honor of this anniversary, Habitat St. Louis hosted a Blitz Build to construct 15 homes in 15 days. The Blitz Build took place in the Wellston neighborhood. West County Churches committed to building a home during the Blitz Build, in addition to the 20 week “normal” build on another home, last year.

"I am thankful for weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it means I have been productive."

"According to the commission of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid foundation, and another man is building upon it."

Brown's new home

"It has been said that life is a journey. In the end, each of us will be judged by our standard of life, not by our standard of living, by our measure of giving, not by our measure of wealth; and by our simple goodness, not by our seeming greatness."

"I am thankful for a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need washing and gutters that need cleaning because it means I have a home."
