| Twenty eight members of Bonhomme recently returned from Mexico, completing Bonhomme’s ninth annual Family Mission Trip: Summer 2006. During that nine year period more than 30 Bonhomme families have participated in spreading God’s love in the building of homes and schools and witnessing to communities in and around Tijuana. The family mission trip, coordinated through Amor Ministries in San Diego, is unique in that we build a completed “Mexican Style” house in a one week period. A ”Mexican Style” house twenty two feet long by eleven feet wide with two rooms, a concrete floor two windows and a strong roof. The new house often replaces or supplements a small “eight by ten” shelter that is built on a dirt floor, with porous walls, a leaking roof and no windows.
While there we also witness to the community by participating in a vacation bible school and getting to know our new Mexican friends. When not building, we live in our tent camp, enjoying all of the comforts of a 2 ½ gallon daily bucket shower and ventilated banos. Our evenings are spent in “unpacking” the events of the day during our praise and worship services.
Over the years many Bonhomme families have made this their traditional summer vacation. If you are interested in finding out more about this trip please feel free to contact Vic or Cindy Wendt.
