Restore St. Louis

They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations. -Isa 61:4

Harambee

Harambee is a Swahili word meaning “let us come together and build”.
Provides summer work for “at risk” youth. The goal is to teach young men and women the responsibility needed to hold a job, while teaching them tuck-pointing (brick work). This year we hired 70 urban youth who in turn work on up to 30 homes for widows or the elderly. The kids are provided breakfast and lunch and have bible devotions every morning. 2006 program June 12th –August 4th.

Volunteer & giving opportunities:
1) Become a part of a prayer initiative for Harambee.
2) Schedule a morning to have devotions & breakfast with youth (8 AM).
3) Schedule time to work along side Harambee youth on the job site. This allows youth opportunity to take the role of instructor, showing volunteers how to tuck-point.
4) Make breakfast for youth any weekday morning during the summer up to August 4th.
5) Bring cold drinks to work sites.
6) Become a part of the Development Committee to work on fundraising events

How Money is Spent

Through the generosity of New City Fellowship and Lithco Inc. we have most of our space donated, and therefore have very little rent to pay. All of our staff is asked to make financial sacrifices by accepting salaries much lower than industry standards. We make the most of volunteer help to reduce the need for larger staffs. All of this is done in order to make the very most out of each dollar that is donated.

Location Served

Our initial target area has been the Hamilton Heights/ West End neighborhoods of north St Louis city. While that remains a primary area of outreach, the Immigrant Community Services has drawn us into a large area of south St Louis city, The Freedom School and Branch Ministry covers all of St Louis.
